About
The Health Professional Councils Authority (HPCA) is inviting applications from people interested in becoming a member of the Medical Council of NSW.
The Council is an independent statutory body established under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (NSW) (the Law). The Minister for Health appoints members to the councils.
The Council’s main responsibility is to protect the health and safety of the public. The Council does this by working in partnership with the Health Care Complaints Commission to manage complaints about the health, performance and/or conduct of registered practitioners and students in NSW.
Positions available:
There is one member position available.
Eligibility:
This position is open to all NSW residents, including medical practitioners and non-practitioner (community or lay) applicants. If you are currently a registered medical practitioner, you must also have a principal place of practice in NSW.
Preference will be given to applicants who fulfill the above criteria over applicants who are registered in another health profession.
Term:
- The term is anticipated to commence in July 2026, on appointment by the Minister for Health.
- Council members are appointed for a term of up to three years and are eligible for reappointment for a maximum period of nine consecutive years.
