Apply your expertise to conservation and heritage

 About the role

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), part of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, has a unique opportunity for community members to join regional advisory committees across NSW.

Regional advisory committees provide valuable insight into the management of the national parks and reserves within their regions and are an important conduit between the community and NPWS.  Committees provide advice to the Minister for the Environment on draft plans of management and to the Secretary of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water and the National Parks and Wildlife Advisory Council on policies, plans and activities for their region.

There are eight NPWS regional advisory committees, one for each of the NPWS operational branches. You can view a map of these regions on the regional advisory committee webpage.

Regional advisory committees are appointed for a four-year term.

Each committee must meet at least four times a year, usually in person. Committee members are eligible to receive sitting fees of $220 per full day ($110 per half day), in line with Classification and Remuneration Framework for NSW Government Boards and Committees. Reasonable approved travel expenses are also reimbursed.

Additional meetings and site inspections to national parks and reserves may occur and out of session reading time is required in preparation for meetings.
