About

The Information and Privacy Commission NSW (IPC) is seeking expressions of interest for appointment to the Information and Privacy Advisory Committee.

The Information and Privacy Advisory Committee is established under section 60 of the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 and is chaired by the NSW Information Commissioner.

The Committee’s statutory role is to provide advice on matters relevant to the functions of the Information Commissioner and the Privacy Commissioner. The Committee facilitates knowledge sharing between government, industry and academia, with a focus on supporting the IPC’s statutory and strategic information access and privacy priorities and obligations. The Committee also provides advice on matters referred to the Committee by the Attorney General and the Minister of Customer Service and Digital Government.

The Committee typically meets four times a year. For further information on the role of the Committee, the IPAC Charter can be accessed via the IPC website.

Applications are sought from candidates with an interest in or relevant knowledge of:

• issues affecting the privacy of individuals or

• matters affecting access to government information.

Applicants for appointment will possess knowledge, expertise or experience in one or more of the following key areas:

• information governance

• access to information law

• data protection

• privacy law

• data analytics

• digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, biometrics, and automated decision making.

Applications from people with a diversity of skills, perspectives, abilities, cultures, life experience and backgrounds are encouraged.

Members are remunerated $2000 per annum. Members may also be reimbursed for legitimate expenses incurred while carrying out their duties, such as travel to attend IPAC meetings.
