About

Help shape the future of victim advocacy in New South Wales

The NSW Victims of Crime Commissioner is seeking expressions of interest from people who are passionate about improving outcomes for victims of crime to become inaugural community members of the NSW Victims Advisory Committee (VAC). This new committee is being established to provide strategic advice to the Commissioner on issues affecting victims of crime.

The Committee will help inform advocacy, policy reform, community engagement and service improvement across New South Wales.

About the Committee

The NSW Victims Advisory Committee advises the NSW Victims of Crime Commissioner on matters affecting victims of crime and supports the Commissioner’s advocacy functions.

The Act requires the committee be made up of twelve members including the Chair (the NSW Victims of Crime Commissioner), five Departmental representatives and six members of the community, appointed by the Commissioner.

Community Member Positions

Applications are strongly encouraged from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people living in regional and rural communities, and people with diverse lived experiences.

Up to six community members will be appointed for an initial three-year term, with the opportunity to be considered for reappointment.

The Act provides for membership of the Committee to include:

  • members with relevant knowledge of and experience in matters relating to victims of crime or who are victims of crime (including at least one member with relevant knowledge of and experience in matters relating to victims of domestic and family violence or victims of sexual violence crime)
  • at least one member who is an Aboriginal person
