Expressions of Interest - The Board of Infrastructure NSW
Infrastructure NSW (INSW) is seeking to appoint a highly respected and progressive Chair to lead its Board.
The INSW Board comprises of an independent Chair, the INSW Chief Executive Officer, up to five distinguished private sector appointees, along with Secretaries of The Cabinet Office, NSW Treasury, and the Department of Planning and Environment.
As an advisory body, the Board plays a pivotal role in shaping strategic infrastructure policy, offering expert guidance to the Minister and CEO on key infrastructure matters across New South Wales.
This experienced and influential Board brings together senior public sector leaders and top-tier professionals from the infrastructure industry. The Chair will lead a dynamic and high-performing group committed to delivering world-class infrastructure outcomes for the State.
The overarching role of the Board Chair is to lead the Board in providing the CEO and relevant Ministers with sound advice and governance through expert strategies, plans and statements detailed in the Infrastructure NSW Act 2011.
About Infrastructure NSW
Infrastructure NSW’s purpose is creating a sustainable infrastructure legacy for NSW. We do this through expert advice, oversight of the state’s infrastructure pipeline, priority project delivery, and precinct development.
Established in July 2011 under the Infrastructure NSW Act 2011, Infrastructure NSW (INSW) provides independent advice to the NSW Government on the identification and prioritisation of critical public infrastructure.
What are we looking for?
In accordance with the Public Service Commission’s Appointment Standards, Boards and Committees in the Public Sector we are unable to accept candidates who are currently employed by NSW Public Sector, or who are lobbyists. For more information, please refer to the Premier’s Memorandum 2013-11-NSW Lobbyist Code of Conduct.

Selection Criteria
- The capacity to think clearly, critically, be objective and to understand and manage conflicts of interest.
- Diverse experience leading boards or management of large organisations involved in infrastructure planning, funding or delivery.
- Leadership capability: ability to influence and get the best from all members and management; setting the tone and overseeing performance of the board; efficient chairing of meetings; shaping the agenda; maintaining a constructive working relationship with the CEO.
- Excellent communication skills: ability/willingness to constructively challenge and encourage members to do the same; including the ability to summarise complex information and arguments; tact, diplomacy and sensitivity to reconcile opposing views.
About You
The Chairperson of the Board must uphold standards of conduct and ethics that maintain public confidence and trust, demonstrate integrity and competence, and treat all stakeholders equally, fairly and reasonably.
The Chairperson must apply good analytical skills, objectivity and judgement, express opinions frankly but respectfully, pursue independent lines of enquiry and ask questions that go to the fundamental core of the issues being considered.
