NSW International Education Advisory Board (3 positions)

The NSW International Education Advisory Board (IEAB) seeks to appoint three new board members to serve under the following designations:

  1. CEO, NSW Regional Local Government Council (or nominated representative)
  2. CEO, International Education Peak Body (or nominated NSW-based member)
  3. CEO, Peak Body (Independent Tertiary Education) (or nominated NSW-based member)

About the IEAB

The IEAB provides expert insight and opinion on Study NSW’s strategic direction, key performance indicators and business plan.

Functions

The IEAB:

  • provides expert advice and insight into matters affecting the NSW international education and research sector
  • identifies opportunities and challenges to foster sustainable growth of the NSW international education and research sector, including ways to build stakeholder engagement and commitment in delivering long-term sector development needs
  • advises on the Study NSW annual business plan and key performance indicators, including input and advice on proposed core initiatives and partner initiatives as they arise
  • reviews the outcomes of the annual business plan and progress against key performance indicators.

Appointment of members and accountability

Members are appointed by the Minister with portfolio responsibility for Study NSW for a period of two years, with the opportunity to extend in two-year increments for a period of up to 10 years, in line with the IEAB Charter.

In conjunction with Study NSW, the Board provides the Minister with portfolio responsibility for Study NSW with an annual report on its activities.

The Secretary with portfolio responsibility for Study NSW can direct the Board to consider specific issues for future reference relating to international education and research and seek its assistance on priority government initiatives.

These positions are not financially remunerated.

Successful candidates

Successful candidates must possess:

  • expertise and understanding of the international education sector
  • awareness of the sector’s social, economic, and political context locally and globally
  • capacity to influence and negotiate on behalf of the sector
  • understanding of legal, ethical, fiduciary, and financial responsibilities
  • strategic expertise, critical thinking, and proven judgment
  • experience in oversight of achievement of outcomes and results
  • the highest levels of integrity and honesty
  • board experience and ability to foster productive discussions and outcomes.

Candidates should add to the reputation, prominence and standing of the role and IEAB and be able to represent the interests of the international education sector as a whole.

The successful candidates must not have any conflicts of interest that would jeopardise their capacity to be independent.
