About
The Office for Health and Medical Research is seeking expressions of interest from
experts in the medtech and biotech sector to join the NSW Medical Devices Fund Expert
Panel.
The Medical Devices Fund is a program funded by NSW Health that provides funding
annually to support eligible applicants develop and commercialise medical devices and
related technologies. This investment helps improve patient care, health and wellbeing,
and generate economic and social benefits in NSW and beyond.
The Medical Devices Fund Expert Panel is responsible for assessing applications to the
Fund, making recommendations on projects to be funded, providing ongoing mentoring
to funding recipients, and providing advice to NSW Health on the delivery of the Fund.
As a member of the Expert Panel, you will play a key role in ensuring the NSW
Government can identify promising opportunities and support the state’s dynamic and
respected medical devices sector to grow.
The Office is seeking suitably qualified people to join the Expert Panel, with experience
in one or more of the following areas:
• Entrepreneurs and founders with startup through to listing experience
• Sector experience in medium to large medtech companies
• Investment experience including private (such as venture capital) and/or public
(such as grant program expertise)
• Clinical experience in working with medical devices
• Medical device technical or scientific expertise
• Expertise in key commercialisation steps, such as intellectual property protection,
regulation, reimbursement, or clinical trials
• Customer advocacy.
Applicants must be either located in NSW, or otherwise have an active understanding of
the NSW life sciences ecosystem.
The NSW Government recognises the need for individuals with the right mix of skills and
experience, who represent the diverse NSW community on its boards and committees.
This includes Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people, a mix of genders and ages,
people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people with a disability,
and the LGBTIQ+ community.
The Expert Panel meets up to three times a year for approximately 4-5 hours. Time
commitment also includes meeting preparation and, in some cases, additional informal
meetings with Medical Devices Fund recipients and prospective applicants. Membership
of the Expert Panel is on a voluntary basis. Members are entitled to daily sitting fees for
meeting days as outlined in the NSW Government Boards and Committees Remuneration
List.
How To Apply
Expert Panel members will be selected through an open expression of interest process
and appointed by the Secretary, NSW Health. To submit an expression of interest, please
provide a copy of your CV and a half-page statement outlining your interest in joining the
Expert Panel and the expertise you would bring. Please send your CV and statement to
